Abstract: |
In 1984, the Principality of Monaco decided to build a facility suitable for business tourism on a multi-purpose site that could also be used to host art exhibitions, concerts, ballets, operas, etc. The substructure of the Grimaldi Forum, also called the Monaco Cultural and Exhibition Centre, is an enormous excavation close to 2 ha in area, reaching depths of 25 m, just a few metres from the Mediterranean Sea. The Grimaldi Forum made use of advanced technologies in the field of deep foundations and excavation, as well as in architectural structures. Since opening in July 2000, successful exhibitions and public events have made the Grimaldi Forum one of the most important art, congress, and exhibition centres of the French Riviera. |
