Abstract:

The Golden Jubilee Footbridges are the stunning multi-span cable stayed footbridges that span the River Thames in Central London, on either side of the existing Hungerford Railway Bridge. The two footbridges provide a direct link for pedestrians from Waterloo Station and the South Bank Arts and Entertainment Complex with Charing Cross Station and London?s West End on the North Embankment. The technique of incrementally launching the bridge deck provided significant time and cost savings and enabled the deck construction to progress in parallel with the fabrication and erection of the steelwork pylons and restraint elements, whilst minimising disruption to the navigable waterway below.
