Abstract: |
The Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District engineer talks about improvements made to the Golden Gate Bridge since opening day. Improvements covered include: wind bracing, a new protective paint system, suspender rope replacement and structural improvements. The author also discusses the replacement of the original bridge deck with a lightweight orthotropic steel plate deck, an improvement which won the Golden Gate Bridge an Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award. |
