Abstract:

Greenhouses - The new DIN SPEC regulations in Germany.

Horticultural greenhouses are especially purpose-built lightweight steel structures. In Germany, there has been a Horticultural Greenhouse Preliminary Standard since 1958, the DINV 11535-1:1982-02, which is still applicable and approved by the building authorities. However, this standard still refers to the older DIN 1055 series of standards, which has resulted in a series of queries and problems. In March 2014, two new DIN Specifications were released, the DIN SPEC 18071 for Production Greenhouses and the DIN SPEC 18072 for Sales Greenhouses, which are both based on the latest Eurocode design concept and which contain the specifications and upgrades required for modern greenhouse design and construction. This article presents the new regulations, which reflect the findings and conclusions from technical discussions, technical literature and international standard projects.
