Abstract: |
The 25 km long Pinglu Tunnel is part of a large water supply project in the north west of the Chinese province of Shanxi. After a brief description of the overall project, the article describes the alignment, geology, lining and the TBM and machinery concept. A second-hand hard rock double shield machine built in 1994 was supplied by the employer and had to be overhauled for the reject. During the progress of tunnelling, numerous mechanical, logistical and geological challenges had to be overcome. |
