Abstract: |
In the planning of tunnels to be excavated according to NATM principles, the decision between full face or partial face excavation is of fundamental and decisive importance for the entire tunnel project. The current paper compares tunnel drives with full face and partial face excavation from various angles. In addition, the influential factors that have to be considered in the decision are explained. Also, an explanation as to how decisions are made in the course of the design, tendering and construction phases is presented. The paper is only concerned with NATM tunnelling; other methods like ADECCO or mechanised tunnelling methods are not considered. |
