Abstract: |
A tunnel lining system of glass fibre reinforced (GRP) was used for the first time for the construction of the Feldsee pumped storage power station - integrated in the Fragant power station group of KELAG-Kärntner Elektrizitäts-AG. This innovative solution, together with the prestressed concrete backfilling, required more elaborate planning and very exact monitoring during construction, but proved considerably more cost effective compared to classic steel armouring. One of the most important questions was how the new system would overcome formation water pressure. The drainage of the tunnel after 20 months of operation has made it possible to gain the first practical experience and the conformation of the system. |
