Abstract: |
The design and construction process of the Falkirk Wheel Project a complex structure, is explained. The Wheel was officially opened in spring 2002 and is the world's only revolving boat lift. As it is not only a static building but is also a dynamic piece of machinery, many new and unforeseen engineering problems had to be resolved. The fact that the wheel is regarded as both an aesthetic and functional success owes everything to the cooperation between engineers and architects throughout the life of the project. |
