Abstract:

Experimental realization of symmetry bearings

Taking advantage of symmetries of reinforced concrete beams and slabs in experimental setups characterizes the fundamental idea in this paper. This leads to significant reductions of test loads and dimensions of test members, i.e. bisection for single and quartering for double axis symmetry, respectively. For this purpose, an almost frictionless sliding as well as a flexurally rigid performance at the symmetry bearing have to be realized. The contribution focuses on development, realization and verification of symmetry bearings and their interface connections to test members. The bearing modules consist of precisely manufactured steel elements, combined with prestressed anchorages of the bending reinforcement. Almost frictionless sliding is ensured by thin greased PTFE-sheets. Comparative investigations show almost identical test behaviours of symmetrically reduced test specimens and corresponding full-size members.
