Abstract:

Inaugurated in 1918, the Monumental Plaza de Toros de Sevilla was one of the buildings of reference in the early years of reinforced concrete in Spain, coming to have international relevance. Ist closure in 1921 and demolition in 1930, supposed an irreparable loss to the architectural patrimony of the city. The analysis of the evolution of the site that occupied the bullring, from the demolition until the first buildings were built, allows determining that there were not urbanistic factors, but other interests, which motivated the demolition. Based on the only remaining part of the existing building, a gate of ist fence, in this work is restored approximately the location of the building, which allows to perceive the magnitude of ist dimensions.
