Abstract:

Microstructural changes in high and ultra high strength concrete exposed to high temperature environments

A concrete exposed to high temperature environments or directly to fire undergoes microstructural changes that result in loss of mechanical properties. Present paper deals with the study of high (HRC) and ultra high performance concretes (UHRC) resistance to high temperatures. Microstructural changes are followed up to temperatures of 700ºC. Changes on permeability, porosity and water moisture losses are considered. UHRC are less resistant than HRC, but the addition of fibres improves their final resistance.
