Abstract: |
Roof and façade steel structures of the Satellite BuildingThe Satellite Building is inserted with the Terminal Building, in the new Madrid Barajas airport terminal area. Both buildings have similar roof and façades structures, being centered this article, in the specific aspects of the Satellite Building. The roof of the Satellite Building has been solved with a framework of curved steel beams and sloped pillars that support the loads of the necessary prestressing of the façades, that as well serve as bracing the set. The prestressing of the façades is made of indirect form, deforming the cover structure previously to the assembly of the façade lattice windows. This process has supposed a delicate operation that it has demanded a specific previous design, a detailed execution and strong control during the works. Key words: Airport, Barajas, steel structures, façade, stainless steel, multipoint prestressing. |
