Abstract:

Colorimetrical stability and influence of the addition of inorganic pigments in concretes under different weathering conditions

This paper is based on the results and conclusions of the first author`s doctoral thesis for the Civil Engineering: Construction Department of the School of the Civil Engineering, Polytechnic University of Madrid, under the direction of Professor José Calavera Ruiz, Head of the School`s Department of Building and Precasting. The tests were carried out in the main Laboratory of INTEMAC in Madrid, thanks to a grant provided by INTEMAC. The purpose of the study is to analyse the variations in colour, appearance and durability of the concrete containing inorganic pigments after exposure to different weathering conditions over a period of approximately one year. Two types of Portland cement (white and grey) were used, with red, black and yellow pigments by the production of concretes of plastic or fluid consistency. In the pigmented concrete were monitored by periodic measurement the colour parameters L*, a*, b* and the durability was evaluated in terms of the results of physical-mechanical characterization tests.
