Abstract:

Preservation of a historical brick vault from the 16th century by means of load reducing, capacity raising and tension regulating measures.

In the course of conservation and conversion measures many buildings have to be secured and reinforced structurally e.g. with steelwork components. Research has shown that such steelwork components often cannot maintain the structural engineer's stress state target. Furthermore, temperature related or other dynamic loads can lead among others to extreme stress peaks in the loadbearing area. This is the reason why newly developed tensioning force controllers were additionally installed on tensioning anchors retrofitted to secure the vaulting masonry at a church in the Rhineland and the effect was evaluated over an extended period.
