Abstract:

Tunnelling under compressed air is also a challenge for medical personnel. In addition to the personal suitability, equipment with the correct apparatus is also important. For the compressed air sites in the Lower Inn Valley, it was necessary to maintain specially trained medical personnel on stand-by round the clock for any emergency in the positive pressure area. This entailed ten ambulance men and seven emergency doctors. The constant readiness of a specially trained emergency team of doctors with apparatus suitable for compressed air provides improved safety for the employees in the positive pressure area and should, according to the available experience, become standard for such large sites.
