Abstract:

Load combinations for flat-bottom storage tanks according to the Eurocode.

Due to their design, flat-bottom storage tanks are a special type of structure with complex loadbearing characteristics. With the introduction of the Eurocode, the requirements for the verification of stability have increased in some regards. On the one hand, there are new rules for the combination of loads that differ from DIN 18800. On the other hand, not all aspects are unambiguously defined within and across individual standards. This leads to significant uncertainty amongst structural engineers and manufacturers as well as operators. This article discusses the rules for load combinations for flat-bottom storage tanks with the aim of facilitating a unified application and a practical, well-coordinated approach.
