Abstract:

The article first discusses the basic behaviour of a preloaded and non‐preloaded bolted joint subjected to tensile or shear loads. The significance of the preload force for the bolted joint is explained. Causes for the loss of the preload force are described. In order to obtain the most durable bolted joint possible, measures against excessive loss of preload force are presented. Be it through appropriate design or manufacturing recommendations or through the use of additional securing elements. On the one hand, approved securing elements are presented and reference is also made to withdrawn standards and thus nonconforming securing elements.
