Abstract:

Trussed compression members with excentric junction plates.

After a serious accident at a construction site, which cause was attributed to a trussed compression member jointed with excentric junction plates, questions occurred, concerning a sufficient design for stability considering effects related to the joint. Those effects include consequences due to a loss of stiffness and excentricity of junction plates, estimated imperfections and the decisive buckling mode. The following article deals with basic thoughts about the topic and gives advices and suggestions for a practical design.
