Abstract:

An investigation to detect debond in steel-reinforced concrete (RC) using built-in piezoelectric elements has been conducted. Results of the experimental work are presented in Part I of the study. In Part II, numerical solutions using a finite element method are applied to simulate the test results. Parametric studies are performed to evaluate the behavior of the sensor response to the various types of RC structures with debonding damage. Based on the extensive parametric studies, a debond detection algorithm for RC structures is established.
