Abstract:

It is obvious to many that metals produce a characteristic sound when struck. It is well known that for centuries people have subtly struck coins to differentiate between real and counterfeit coins. Unfortunately, when the materials present slight differences such as thermal or mechanical treatments, it is almost impossible for the human ear to differentiate these modifications.
