Abstract:

Foundation and steel and concrete structures in the Torre de Cristal. A high-rise building process

Construction began on the structure of the Glass Tower on 10 March 2005, with an estimated completion period of 24 months. With the deep foundations finished and the basements excavated in this large and necessarily complex project in terms of the number of activities to be coordinated, this new stage of construction entailed the added difficulty of working at considerable heights. In order to complete the works on schedule, provision was made for the on-site resources required and action was taken to develop the building process described in the following sections, to ensure successful conclusion of the project. The unique characteristics of the curtain wall assembly scheme, the survey control systems and the high-strength self-compacting concrete 100 MPa used at the base of the tower supports are described at the end of the article.
