Abstract:

Demolishing bridge bearings - Bridge pillars with permanent mine chambers.

Bridge pillars with permanent mine chambers are not noted in technical literature and bridge maintenance. This paper explores an outline history of these constructions, executed in Germany since 19th century. Discussing the constructive effects of mine chambers, the ongoing influences to bridge pillars and bearings will be pointed out.
