Abstract:

Bridges from the viewpoint of a hydraulic engineer

During river floods it has often been observed that bridges could obstruct the flow of the water and enhance or cause inundations of the adjacent areas. In this paper some significant principles of the constructional design of bridges are discussed from a hydraulic engineer's viewpoint to ensure the erection of useable and durable structures.
