Abstract: |
The growing traffic has necessitated the construction of a new motorway bridge across the River Daugava in the historical part of the city. The main task of the designer was to merge the new modern engineering structure and the historical surrounding buildings. The bridge consists of a trestle approach on the right bank which passes through the architectural reservation, with a flyover on the left bank. The construction of the whole complex has been executed practically without losses to the existing buildings and all transport problems have been solved. The main building of the complex is the bridge with the span of 312 m (maximum in the USSR). |
