Abstract:

Fire tests on historic floor structures.

The assessment in respect of fire resistance of existing floor constructions is a challenge to planners and executioners. If the today's required fire resistance class cannot be proven, an improvement for the floor system is essential. This is done in most cases by additional claddings or suspended ceilings. The verification of the fixing of those systems is difficult because this is often not in the scope of approvals.
A series of fire tests has been performed to investigate the behavior of historic floor structures under fire exposure. The complete system of fire protective cladding and its practice-oriented fixing was subjected to these tests. The present paper explains the former approach to assess the fire behavior of historic floors, characteristics of the test specimens and the evaluation of the tests.
