Abstract: |
The Bergsøysund Floating Bridge is located near the city of Kristiansund on the west coast of Norway. A floating bridge design was selected for this site as it was found to be economically favourable compared with a suspension bridge alternative. The Bergsøysund Floating Bridge floats on seven pontoons without any lateral supports over its entire 845 m length. The total cost of the Bergsøysund Floating Bridge was NOK 335 million, at the time of construction. This figure includes construction, project management, engineering, and development costs and taxes. Floating bridges can be a cost effective alternative, especially for long span crossings. |
