Abstract:

Design aids for the lateral torsional buckling analysis of haunched I-profiles (part II).

In the highly stressed corners of frame structures often haunches are realized. Currently, the structural advantages of haunched members can be utilised efficiently for only a few special cases because of the lack of necessary information for the member checks. Design aids for the lateral torsional buckling check of members with and without haunches are presented. These include requirements concerning the stiffness of secondary members that permit to rule out failure due to lateral torsional buckling and to utilise the full resistance of the cross section if complied with. Furthermore, rules for breaking down structures for individual member checks are specified.
