Abstract:

An accessible rollercoaster in Duisburg

An accessible oversize sculpture was built in 2011 on an excavation heap in Duisburg. On a double curved tube a footway was applied with unregular stairs of steel gratings. The structure was planned with aid of a parametric model. This model enabled the design of the geometrically extreme difficult project. Due to the bad soil conditions and for this reason the low soil strength, the foundations had to be dimensioned exceptionally huge. Vibration absobers were assembled on significant places in order to insulate horizontal oscillation.
