Abstract:

Bracing and stabilisation by sandwich panels

The high in-plane stiffness of sandwich panels can be taken into account for bracing (diaphragm action) or stabilisation (beams, columns) if the characteristics of such systems are taken into account. These characteristics are determined by the high degree of pre-fabrication. The state of the art in the calculation of the stiffness and the load-bearing capacity of sandwich panels under in-plane loading is introduced. The dominating influence of the fixings is explained. Current development trends are identified.
