Abstract:

Leaching behaviour of renderings and masonry mortars.

The environmental compatibility of renderings and mortars in the utilisation phase is a scientific theme which is so far poorly investigated. The Institute of Building Materials Research (ibac) of the RWTH Aachen University has investigated the leaching behaviour of three renderings and one masonry mortar by conducting long term tank tests, laboratory immersion method and artificial irrigation in the laboratory. The results of the laboratory experiments were compared to several years lasting outdoor experiments of the Fraunhofer-Institute for Building Physics (IBP) at Holzkirchen. The comparison of the results shows that it is not always possible to predict the worst-case, which depends on the building material properties.
