Abstract: |
Recent developments show that special measures like pipe umbrellas are being used more often in continuous tunnelling, and already have to be planned during the design phase. The AT - Casing System, already in successful use for some decades in sequential tunnelling and in geotechnical engineering, has recently seen increasing use in TBM tunnelling. According to the type of pipe used, the system can be used to support the surrounding ground, for grouting measures or for drainage. An example calculation is intended to demonstrate the potential of advance support over a fault zone and point out some possible optimisations of the load-bearing capacity. Finally, the system is presented through the example of the New Kaiser Wilhelm Tunnel in Germany. On this project, the AT - Pipe Umbrella System was combined with the AT - GRP Injection System in order to gain the advantages of both. |
