Abstract:

The present work aims to evaluate the wood connections, with dowels and external steel plates, in double shear, subjected to fire. The presence of external steel plates, in a fire situation, leads to a non‐uniform distribution of charring in the internal wooden elements. Based on the results, it is observed that the charring rate in wood does not remain constant and increases with the time of fire exposure of the steel elements. However, based on the influence of other variables, the charring rate decreases with increasing dowel diameter and with increasing wood density.
