Abstract: |
Scour of jointed rock is an important safety issue for dams worldwide, with the cases of Kariba Dam and Ricobayo Dam illustrating the severe consequences of dam and spillway foundation erosion. Leading state-of-the-practice methods for assessing rock scour, such as the Erodibility Index Method and Comprehensive Scour Model, consider the influence of rock mass jointing on scour development, but current models have yet to fully consider the three dimensional mechanics and kinematics of rock block removal. |
