Abstract:

Study of web buckling in composite steel and concrete sections

Buckling phenomena in axially loaded steel webs with predominance of tension stresses, can condition the design of composite steel and concrete sections subjected to positive bending. In spite of this, such phenomena are often insufficiently or inadequately analyzed in most of the literature and codes. This fact can determinate unnecessary increases of thickness or superfluous disposition of longitudinal stiffeners, with considerable economical consequences. This work, after a review of the state of the art, deepen into the mentioned problem, assiming linear theory of buckling, and using Finite Element Method. The study allows to obtain several conclusions and results for the practical design and assessment of steel webs with predominance of tension stresses.
