Ancient and modern bridges in China have much in common. A survey of old and new bridges in China is presented, focusing on the following bridge types: open spandrel arch, timber cantilever, timber strut arch cantilever, truss and iron chain bridges. The paper underscores China's contributions to structural engineering history. |
