Abstract: |
The paper discusses a practical method for numerically analysing bridge response to wind effects. A numerical scheme is used which incorporates the natural wind characteristics and the aeroelastic properties of the bridge deck in order to perform a coupled time-history analysis of the dynamic response. The application of the scheme to the footbridge Kehl-Strasbourg, a very slender cable-stayed bridge, is shown and the design of a sophisticated rocker-type Tuned Mass Damper system is outlined. |
