Abstract: |
The bridge of San Pedro de la Ribera was built in 1994 over the River Esqueiro. It is located in the A-8 motorway (section Las Dueñas-Novellana), in Asturias (Spain). The original deck is a prestressed concrete continuous structure. The total length is 750 m and the main spans are 150 m. The original platform of the deck has been widened in 2008-2009 from 12 m to 23 m. Because the deck was not prepared for being enlarged, it has been necessary to strengthen it to resist the new supplementary loads. So, an additional central web and a composite concrete-steel section have been built and connected to the existing girder. Also, external prestressing tendons have been implemented into the existing deck. The widening of the upper slab of the desk and the construction of the additional structural elements were made using five movable scaffoldings while keeping the bridge open to traffic under construction. |
