The new air-traffic control tower at Barcelona airport features significant structural details, among which is the innovative interaction of supporting elements in white prefabricated concrete and the aluminium core. The two materials were selected for their corrosion resistance, which makes them suitable for load bearing ele ments in an area close to the seashore. This selection met the request for material durability specified by the client. This paper mainly deals with the aluminium stairway. |
