Abstract:

Recent experimental results about the behaviour of laminated glass exposed to snowfall events.

The shear coupling of laminated glass is decisively affected by the time- and temperature-dependent viscoelastic material properties of the polymeric interlayer. Though often neglected for long-term load situations, the shear coupling promises to be applicable and economically relevant for the load case snow, by reason of enhanced interlayer material properties, associated to the temperature conditions. This paper reports on recent experimental results obtained by long-term monitoring of free-air test facilities for laminated glass exposed to snowfall events. The investigations are part of the ongoing research program "Identification of bearing capacity enhancing characteristics of laminated glass", funded by the DFG (German Research Foundation).
