Abstract: |
The aeroelastic stability of suspension bridge decks at early stages of erection is discussed. Recent wind tunnel tests of the Höga Kusten Bridge and the Storebælt East Bridge indicate that the bridges were apparently more stable when the suspended deck was extended in an asymmetric manner, as opposed to the usual symmetric erection schedule. The use of asymmetric deck configurations as a stabilising measure against wind-induced actions during deck erection is suggested. |
