Abstract: |
The German design code DIN 10531 from 1996 for masonry does not cover walls made of large-sized units. Consequently special regulations from the building authority have to be regarded for the design of these walls. Considering the longtime experience with large-sized masonry units the German Institute of Standardization is presently working on a new design code for walls made of these units. Accordingly the design models for normal-sized masonry units have to be modified in consideration of the specific requirements for large-sized units. In particular the calculation method for the load-bearing capacity of multilateral supported walls has to regard the small overlap of the masonry units. Accordingly a new method for the approximation of the effective height of multilateral supported walls is being presented in the following paper. In view of an easy application the method is based on the theoretic background of the national and international regulations for concrete and masonry. |
