Abstract: |
Tel Aviv is the the country's leading metropoline and looking to the future is investing immensly in pedestrian and bicycle traffic as well as light rail in an attempt to combat problematic congestion and pollution vehicles bring and open up the city and its streets to the people. As an essential link the city's traffic design, the Yehudit-Bitzaron footbridge connects east to west and is the catalyst for urban renewal in the Yehudit Boulevard area. When the Tel Aviv municipality issued an architectural competition for the design of a new footbridge, they were set on a landmark structure. The winning design was a single span tied arch "with a twist" proposed by Nir Chen Architects and Rokach Ashkenazi Engineers. This paper briefly presents the motivation for the project, the structural architectural design, some of the major obstacles and the effect that the project has and will have on its surroundings. |
