Abstract:

High Molecular Weight Methacrylate has been used extensively in California for the sealing of cracks on concrete bridge decks. The materials allows for the protection of the reinforcing bars in the deck. The low cost, easy application, and quick cure time makes it ideal in dense urban areas. The low impact on the environment makes it highly suitable for mountainous, forested, and coastal areas. The material has a low viscosity which allows it to penetrate small cracks in the deck surface. Methacrylate is one of many tools used to extend the life of bridge decks thereby reducing the long term cost of bridges.
