Abstract: |
Duplex stainless steels have many desirable characteristics which can be exploited in bridge structures. They are particularly suitable wherever certain environmental conditions combine with the need for high load-bearing capability. The paper discusses the mechanical and physical properties of this family of stainless steels. Guidance is given on grade selection, design using Eurocode 3 and sustainability attributes. Case study information of some recent duplex stainless steel bridges is presented. |
