Abstract: |
The proposals for the “Arctic City”, an air supported dome of 1971, a suspended very long-span bridge made of carbon fibre reinforced polymers from 1987 and a submerged tunnel made of glass fibre reinforced polymers across the Strait of Gibraltar are presented and based on the state- of-the-art of advanced materials discussed. |
