Abstract: | The San River is the last Carpathian tributary of the Vistula River and the sixth longest river in Poland. In Sanok area the river has still a mountainous nature although with low water level it can spill as wide as 100 m. The San River has always posed a flood hazard and was unpredictable. Even constructing the dam system forty years ago could not ensure flood safety. Hence people living in mountain settlements located along the river still use only temporary bridges or primitive suspension footbridges. The Basic design of the new footbridge in Sanok was prepared at the end of 2006 and since then the city has been looking for the chance of using Structural Founds to finance the final design and construction process. The main bridge is a suspended structure with stressed ribbon deck. Postensioned deck designed with prefabricated panels which in cross section have two 40 cm high edge beams jointed by the 15 cm slab. The length of the main span is 135.0 m which gives very slender structure with a h:L = 1:337 ratio. |
