Abstract:

For the highway bridges to be widened, it is important to find out the effect of new section on the old section. The paper is to study the effect of concrete creep and shrinkage of the new section of widened hollow slab bridges. The analytic method to analyse the effect is put forward, the change of the elastic modulus with concrete age is considered in it; a program is complied with MATLAB for analysis accordingly. Then six parameters which may have effect on deflection and stress of widened bridges are studied. The parameters includes the concrete age of the new hollow slabs when splicing with the old ones, height of the new hollow slabs, width of the new part, concrete strength of the new hollow slabs, environment relative humidity, prestressing and width of the concrete splice plate. A 20 m long hollow slab bridge is analysed by the program. Studies present parameters which have more effect on the superstructure.
