Abstract: |
This paper looks at the geometry optimization of simply supported timber beams with a solid section, governed by weight minimization and fabrication constraints. The preliminary computational results show a structural weight reduction up to 44% of the initial weight for a rectangular prismatic beam with the same load capacity. Optimized and designed using digital tools, that shape was then milled out of timber and load tested. |
