Abstract:

Superstructure of Vistula Bridge near Chełmno consists of five steel spans with riveted framework. Change of load capacity class demanded strengthening of all tension elements. Strengthening of upper and bottom flange main truss girders was proposed with Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) strips. CFRP tapes are narrow and they could be placed in between heads of rivets. Before application of CFRP tapes the whole bridge platform was removed, which cased maximum relief of the entire bridge construction system. During time of strengthening (surface preparation and placing CFRP strips) the only load was coming from tensions cause by weight of bridge construction structure itself and very light working platforms.
