Abstract: |
The stay cables for cable-stayed bridges are normally designed to get the bridge deck to behave under dead load, as a continuous beam on rigid supports. Consequently, the creep effect due to bending of the deck elements under dead load, can be eliminated and the achieved stay cable forces and the bridge alignment will not change with time. Whilst the methods for the determination of the stay cable forces under dead load for cable- stayed bridges have been dealt with in several previous researches, it has been found that these methods cannot be applied for extradosed bridges. In this paper, the common method used for the determination of the stay cables forces under dead load for cable-stayed bridges will be briefly discussed and a new method for the same purpose will be presented for extradosed bridges. |
